NYC - The beginning!

So it has reached the end of my first week in cold New York City! After arriving into snowstorms and icy conditions, I have started to find my feet in the city I now call home.

My first week has consisted of sorting out bank accounts/mobile phones, and all the logistical things one would come to expect from a person jumping to another country.

It has also been full of many surprises, most importantly being asked to sing with Sean Wayland's funk band at the Rockwood Music Hall last night (which featured Sting/John Mayer/Steely Dan drummer Keith Carlock!!!) . I hope it will be the first of many times that I can get up on stage at the iconic Rockwood Music Hall.

I have also been lucky enough to check out music gigs at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, The Juilliard Dance School, and catch up with old friends!

Below are a few happy snaps from my time so far!

About to take the stage with pianist Sean Wayland at Rockwood Music Hall

Watching the end of year Juilliard Dance Performances! Incredible

Tompkins Square Park - Just near where I am lucky enough to be living for a month in the East Village!

Sidney Creswick Street Theatre Performances

Normally I dont mix my drinks, but I have just completed my biggest artistic and musical endeavour to date with my indie/pop band Sidney Creswick. Sadly this will be the last show for us in the foreseeable future due to the move to NYC, but this show was a great way to finish things off!

It was a concept piece entitled "I Thought I Was Not Alone", involving the 5-piece Sidney Creswick band, string quartet and 9 dancers! It finished up fantastically and I am very proud of everyones hard work and efforts on the project!

Performing with Jef Neve

It was truly an honor to be able to perform with one of my favourite piano players, Belgium pianist Jef Neve. Travelling through Canberra en-route to Wangaratta Jazz Festival, i managed to poach him for a lesson!

much to my surprise at his concert that night, he asked me to get up and perform an encore with him of the standard "I Don't Stand A Ghost of A Chance".

It was an incredible experience and one I will never forget. I hope to upload some video footage of it here soon! But in the meantime, here is a picture to proove it really happened!

School Of Music Fundraiser

It was an honour that the ANU School of Music (where I have been teaching this Semester) asked me to be involved in their fundraiser! It was a chance to join forces again with the wonderful Tate Sheridan after our Capital Jazz Project duo performance!

Here is a pic from the night courtesy of Eric Pozza!

Debut performance in Sydney @ The Basement with James Morrison Band

Had an amazing first performance to a full house at the iconic Basement in Sydney recently! It was a an incredibly enjoyable night joining a killing band!

It is a venue where some of my favourite albums have been recorded (Vince Jones - Live, and Jon Cleary - Live!)

Here is a photo from the night! Will post a video or two soon I hope!

Generations in Jazz 2013

Last weekend i was lucky enough to be invited back as last year's scholarship winner to perform in Mount Gambier for GIJ 2013. Over the weekend i had a fantastic time, performing with James Morrison, Tim Firth, James Muller, Brett Hirst and Kevin Hunt! It was estimated that the opening concert was attended by over 4000 people! Below is a snippet from the performance!

NYC Debut!

Having been travelling around the US for the last month, i have arrived back in NYC.

It was an amazing priveledge and pleasure to be invited up to sing at the Lincoln Centre's Dizzys Jazz Club on thursday night!

Perhaps even more exciting was being asked to sing again two nights later, with an unbelievably swinging band that included two drummers (bryan Carter and Joe Saylor) and Jon Batiste! What an honour to sing with these guys!

Will be posting more info on my NYC travels here soon!
